WASHINGTON, DC– Brewbound, a leading media platform covering the beer industry, yesterday recognized Jim McGreevy, president and CEO of the Beer Institute, and Bob Pease, CEO of the Brewers Association, as Persons of the Year during its San Diego Session. The Brewbound Person of the Year Award recognizes its recipient(s) for their outstanding achievement and leadership in the U.S. brewing industry. 2015 marks the second annual Brewbound awards ceremony.

Brewbound jointly awarded McGreevy and Pease the Person of the Year Award in honor of their work to unite all brewers and beer importers under one federal excise tax bill, bringing the entire industry together over the common goal of recalibrating the federal excise tax on beer. In June, both groups welcomed the introduction of the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act, which, if enacted, would create a fair, equitable and comprehensive tax structure for brewers and beer importers, while modernizing antiquated regulations.

“I am honored to receive this award and pleased to share it with my colleague, Bob Pease,” said McGreevy. “Together, our associations and their member companies are working toward a fairer tax code that allows the brewing industry to create jobs and grow the U.S. economy. If enacted, the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act could create an additional $320 million in economic growth. This commonsense legislation is about fostering economic expansion as it benefits all brewers big and small.”

In addition to support from the entire brewing industry, the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act also enjoys broad, bipartisan support in both the United States House of Representatives and Senate. As of December 4, 2015, the bill has 138 co-sponsors in the House of Representatives and 29 co-sponsors in the Senate.
