Susan (Susie) Mulqueen is known for her exceptional job performance; leadership; teamwork; passion for the hop industry and her innovative, solution-driven mindset.
For 47 years, Susie has made a lasting impact on the hop industry and, by extension, the greater brewing industry, through her work at John I. Haas. Her deep expertise in hops and hop product analytics, combined with her willingness to coach and train new technicians, has greatly strengthened both the Quality Control (QC) team and John I. Haas as a whole.
In her role as senior lab technician, Susie actively embraces leadership opportunities to grow her skills while helping to ensure that the laboratory continues to function at a very high level. Admirably, throughout her career, Susie has also mentored and invested in the development of new and junior technicians.
Susie has positively impacted the development of more than 30 lab technicians and interns during her 47-year career. As part of this effort, Susie routinely shares valuable “lab life lessons” that encourage resilience, remind her team that mistakes are opportunities to learn and reinforces the importance of continuous improvement—building both confidence and collaboration within the team. All of this helps ensure that individual growth translates into a highly effective and efficient QC lab.
Year after year, Susie’s strong work ethic and genuine love for her role shine through. She consistently exceeds expectations, driving improvements while upholding established methods, increasing efficiency and fostering sustainability. Susie has played a fundamental role in the development of new methods of hops analysis. Always eager to take on new challenges, she approaches these and other projects with creativity and determination, particularly those that focus on waste reduction and innovative problem-solving.
