WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Beer Institute announced that Dr. Joy Dubost, RD, CSSD, will join the trade association as Senior Director of Science and External Affairs. Dubost will lead the development, evaluation and advocacy of the beer industry’s regulatory policies and positions. The Beer Institute represents brewers, beer importers and industry suppliers before Congress, regulatory agencies, the media and others.

“Joy’s unique experience working in nutrition, food science and public policy, and her personal passion for beer, make her a perfect fit for our organization and for this dynamic industry,” said Beer Institute President and CEO Jim McGreevy. “Joy’s ability to understand the products, and the complex regulatory environment that governs them, will be valuable as we navigate key issues and programs like the U.S. Dietary Guidelines, menu labeling and our responsibility initiatives.”

“I am excited to be joining the Beer Institute and begin advocating for an industry I have been following for years,” said Dubost. “I look forward to providing my expertise on a wide spectrum of scientific and regulatory issues facing today’s brewers.”

Dubost comes to the beer industry from the National Restaurant Association where she was Senior Director of Nutrition for nearly five years. She is a Registered Dietitian, Board Certified in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) and an experienced food scientist. She has worked in the areas of food science and nutrition for over 15 years, which includes nutrition communications and education, public policy, and product development.

Dubost is a Master Brewers Association of the Americas beer steward and a national media spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and frequently speaks to the public and the media on nutrition and healthy living. She received her Doctorate in Food Science from Pennsylvania State University, her Master’s Degree in Food Science from the University of Georgia and her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Chemistry from Hood College and completed her dietetic internship at the University of Michigan Hospitals.

America’s brewers and importers are committed to sustainability and responsibility, including investment in hundreds of programs and initiatives to support public safety, education and alcohol abuse prevention. These initiatives are outlined in a white paper, “Commitment to Responsibility,” recently released to Capitol Hill.
