Beer Institute Commends U.S. House for Passing COVID Relief

House passage first step in providing critical relief for bars and restaurants WASHINGTON – Tonight, Jim McGreevy, president and CEO of the Beer Institute, released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed COVID-19 relief legislation: “As bars and restaurants continue to struggle under the weight of the pandemic, this legislation is a first step to providing relief. Beer Institute Releases October 2020 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate

Today, the Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid shipments by beer brewers for October 2020: The October 2020 estimate is 13,250,000 barrels, an increase of 0.6% compared to October 2019 removals of 13,168,000. The Beer Institute estimates for the remaining months are expected to see continued revisions as TTB Industry Circular 2020-2 has postponed reporting requirements for filing and payment due dates for up to 90 days.

Beer Institute Releases September 2020 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate

WASHINGTON – Today, the Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid shipments by beer brewers for September 2020: The September 2020 estimate is 14,800,000 barrels, which is virtually the same as the September 2019 removals of 14,796,000 barrels. The chart below updates the May 2020 estimate of 14,216,000 barrels to a revised estimate of 13,770,000 barrels.

Beer Institute Releases August 2020 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate

WASHINGTON – Today, the Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid shipments by beer brewers for August 2020: The August 2020 estimate is 14,500,000 barrels, an increase of 1.2% vs. August 2019 removals of 14,324,000. On September 3, the Alcohol Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) issued a March 2020 Beer Report. The chart below updates the March 2019 and March 2020 tax paid volumes to match the TTB.

Beer Institute Names Senators Daines and Stabenow and Representatives Newhouse and Rice 2020 Beer Champions

WASHINGTON — Today, the Beer Institute announced it named United States Senators Steve Daines (R-MT) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) as well as Representatives Dan Newhouse (R-WA) and Kathleen Rice (D-NY) as the “2020 Beer Champions” for their instrumental leadership in supporting federal policies that aid the success of U.S. brewers and beer importers.

651,000 Jobs Supported by U.S. Beer Industry to be Lost Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

By year’s end, the COVID-19 pandemic will result in a $22 billion drop in beer sales Today, the Beer Institute, the Brewers Association, the National Beer Wholesalers Association and the American Beverage Licensees released a report from a leading economic firm showing more than 651,000 jobs supported by the U.S. beer industry will be lost by the end of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These job losses include more than 3,600 brewing jobs, 1,800 distributing jobs and 400,000 retail-related jobs.

Beer Institute Poll: Americans Want Congress to Make Tax Relief Permanent for Brewers and Importers, Examine Aluminum Market

As lawmakers head back to Washington for the end of the 116th Congress, a bipartisan majority of Americans agree two beer-related issues are priorities.   WASHINGTON—Today, the Beer Institute released the results of its latest nationwide polls, with 63 percent of American voters supporting Congressional action to provide permanent federal excise tax relief for brewers and beer importers. Further, 72 percent support Congress opening an investigation into the American aluminum market.

Beer Institute Releases July 2020 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate

WASHINGTON – Today, the Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid shipments by beer brewers for July 2020: The July 2020 estimate is 15,100,000 barrels, an increase of 1.9% vs. July 2019 removals of 14,820,000. The Beer Institute estimates for March 2020, April 2020, May 2020, June 2020, and July 2020 will be revised moving forward as TTB Industry Circular 2020-2 postponed for up to 90 days reporting requirements for filing and payment due dates on or before June 30, 2020.

Beer Institute and Brewers Association file comments highlighting scientific and procedural inconsistencies in Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee moderate alcohol consumption guidelines recommendations

WASHINGTON – Today, the Beer Institute and the Brewers Association filed written comments with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) highlighting numerous scientific and procedural issues that undermine the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee’s recommendation to halve the moderate alcohol consumption guidelines for men. “For three decades, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans have defined moderate alcohol consumption as up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men.
