BEER INSTITUTE RELEASES APRIL 2018 DOMESTIC TAX PAID ESTIMATE

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid shipments by beer brewers for April 2018: The April 2018 estimate is 14,575,000 barrels, an increase of 1.3% versus April 2017 removals of 14,394,000. Please note that the estimates reflect revised estimates released by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).

Beer Institute requests Department of Commerce address anticompetitive activities driving increases in aluminum prices

WASHINGTON, DC — In comments filed with the Department of Commerce regarding the recently implemented tariff on imported aluminum, the Beer Institute requested that the Department work with the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to address potentially anticompetitive activities in the aluminum market that are driving up aluminum prices.

Beer Institute Lauds Inclusion of Calories on Menus in Chain Restaurants

WASHINGTON, DC – Effective May 7, 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is requiring chain restaurants disclose calories and other nutrition information for standard menu items on menus and menu boards, including beer. In August 2017, the Beer Institute filed comments with the FDA supporting the requirement that restaurants list the calories for each individual brand of beer, glass or bottle of wine and each mixed drink made with hard liquor listed on an alcohol drink menu.

BEER INSTITUTE CALLS FOR STABILITY IN ALUMINUM MARKET

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Jim McGreevy, President and CEO of the Beer Institute, issued the following statement after President Trump continued to exempt trading allies from the 10 percent aluminum tariff: “We appreciate President Trump’s desire to bring back jobs in the U.S. aluminum industry. However, the Beer Institute and its members stand united against the recently-imposed tariffs on imported aluminum. These tariffs are a new $347 million tax on the U.S. beer industry.

Please note that the estimates reflect revised estimates released by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).

BEER INSTITUTE RELEASES “HOME OF LIFE IN AMERICA: DEPICTIONS OF DOMESTIC LIFE FROM THE ART COLLECTION OF THE BEER INSTITUTE” TO MARK NATIONAL BEER DAY

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Beer Institute celebrated the eve of National Beer Day by releasing “Home of Life In America: Depictions of Domestic Life from the Art Collection of the Beer Institute.” Between 1945 and 1956 the United States Brewers’ Association – the Beer Institute’s predecessor organization – produced and ran “Beer Belongs,” a national magazine advertising campaign that placed 120 ads in Life, Collier’s, Look, McCall’s, Sunset and Woman’s Home Companion.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid shipments by beer brewers for February 2018: The February 2018 estimate is 11,202,000 barrels, a decrease of 3.4% versus February 2017 removals of 11,602,000. Please note that the estimates reflect revised estimates released by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB).

Beer Institute Names Ramsey Cox, Director Media Relations and Public Affairs

WASHINGTON, DC – The Beer Institute–one of the nation’s oldest trade associations representing America’s brewers, beer importers, and industry suppliers–announced today that it has named Ramsey Cox as its director of media relations and public affairs. ”I am thrilled to welcome Ramsey to the Beer Institute where she brings a wide-range of public affairs and media experience both as staff for a member of Congress and as a Capitol Hill reporter,” said Jim McGreevy, Beer Institute President and CEO.

Beer Institute asks President Trump to provide exemption for imported aluminum used to make beer cans

Jim McGreevy, Beer Institute President and CEO, released the following statement after President Trump signed an executive order imposing a 10% tariff on imported aluminum: ”This tariff on aluminum will hurt American breweries and beer importers that are employing Americans and producing beer, America’s most popular alcohol beverage. Our nation’s more than 5,000 active breweries are supporting more than 2.2 million jobs and helping to pour more than $350 billion into our national economy.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of domestic tax paid shipments by beer brewers for January 2018: The January 2018 estimate is 12,167,000 barrels, a decrease of 5.6% versus January 2017 removals of 12,889,000.
